Dr. Tracey Ray

Dr. Tracey Ray is the Assistant Vice Provost for Student Diversity at NC State University. She previously served as Director of Multicultural Student Affairs in the Division of Student Affairs at NC State University for 10 years. In addition, she is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Curriculum Instruction & Counselor Education and teaches with the Africana Studies Program. She has 15 years of college teaching experience. Through various roles, leadership and service on university committees and task forces, she contributes to NC State in the area of diversity, equity and inclusion. She has researched, designed and implemented unique programs and services that assist students from all walks of life. This includes programs like the Guaranteed 4.0 Academic Boot Camp, the Student Success Series, and A.S.A.P.- Academic Support Assistance Program. In 2008, she participated in the Latino Initiative, sponsored by the University of North Carolina system’s Center for International Understanding. This is an intensive study program on immigration and its impact in North Carolina. In 2009, she was a recipient of a $50,000 Semillas, Growing What Works Grant awarded through Excelencia in Education. Her background as a Social Psychologist has enabled her to conduct research and program assessment to assist individuals with personal, professional and leadership development, as well as foster student engagement as it relates to student success and cultural competence. Currently, she is a facilitator for the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI). She has presented at a number of national conferences including the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity in Higher Education, the American Psychological Association, the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, the Association of American Colleges and Universities, and the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Centers Annual Meeting. Prior to entering academia, Ray worked at various levels for a Raleigh based non-profit organization, Community Partnerships, Inc. which served individuals with disabilities through an array of community-based services from birth through adulthood. In 1999, she received the Citizen Involvement Award through the Raleigh Mayor’s Committee on Persons with Disabilities. Dr. Tracey Ray earned a B.A. degree in Psychology (1993), an M.S. in Social Psychology (1997) and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology with a minor in Public Administration (2001) from NC State University. She firmly believes in global citizenship and can often be found sharing the quote, “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” ~Saint Augustine
