Dr. RaJade Berry-James, is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Programs in the Department of Public Administration at North Carolina State University (NCSU). Her research and teaching interests in public administration focus on three distinct areas: social equity, program evaluation, and research methods. Her scholarly research has appeared in the Journal of Black Political Research, Public Performance and Management Review, International Journal of Public Administration, International Journal of Humanities, Journal of Public Budgeting, Accounting and Financial Management, and Journal of Public Management and Social Policy. As a service to the profession, Dr. Berry-James is the current chair of the Commission on Peer Review and Accreditation (COPRA/NASPAA), co-chair of the 2013 12th Annual Social Equity Leadership Conference, a community reviewer on the NC Department of Public Safety Human Subjects Review Committee and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Public Administration Education (JPAE), Journal of Public Management and Social Policy (JPMSP), and the journal of Public Performance and Management Review (PPMR). Berry-James is a past recipient of The Donald S. Stone Service Award from the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for Outstanding Public Service to the Community from The Honorable Betty Sutton, U.S. House of Representative, Congressional District Number 13 of Ohio. Prior to joining SPIA, Berry-James was a faculty member (2000-2010) at The University of Akron in Ohio. Dr. Berry-James earned a B.S. degree in business administration from Rider University (1987), a MPA degree from Kean University (1993) and a PhD degree from Rutgers University – Newark (1999). As a personal mantra, Dr. Berry-James has adopted an old Ethiopian Proverb, “S/he who learns, teaches” to guide her academic and practical work.
